Arizona became the 48th state in the union on February 14th, 1912; about the time the Bucklar family was building their log home from which to operate their cattle ranch on the south rim of the Grand Canyon. Only 12 miles south of the park boundary, this property is being offered for sale for the second time in the last 60 years. Surrounded by the Kaibab National Forest in the middle of Arizona G&F Unit 9, long known for world record bull elk, the property includes 160 acres, 2752 SF log home, 855 SF caretaker/guest house and several out buildings. The most important feature is a pond on the south end which encompasses a little more then an acre at the confluence of two drainages. This wildlife magnet is the most consistent water source for miles around. The previous owner decided the trip in was a bit much so he constructed a 3300 foot runway to access the property. It remains in excellent condition providing unique access although prior to landing you may have to make a low pass to move the elk out of the way. For an outfitter or similar outdoor business, such access could prove to be a valuable marketing tool. One challenge in the Grand Canyon has always been a lack of developed water. Even today potable water is hauled into the park for the various visitor venues and the same is true for this property. A 7000 gallon water cistern feeds a pressure system so your guests will never know just how remote they are. Power is provided by a permanent diesel generator/inverter and there are several out buildings used as workshops and hay storage. The home was first constructed in the early 1900's and its size was doubled in the mid 50's. The original home is a full log construction, the addition was framed and finished with half log siding. From the outside, the construction technique is consistent where as the interior sections are easier to distinguish. The home is solid having been very well maintained and the land unique; pictures tell more then I could ever describe.
